Huchthausen, Walter G.

Walter G. Huchthausen, 90, of Stuart, Florida died August 29, 2013, at Martin Medical Center, Stuart. He was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, January 24, 1923, to Walter C. and Ella (Geisler) Huchthausen.

A Class of 1944 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Walter worked for Bendix Aviation for three years prior to joining the family-owned business, Huchthausen Hardware and Industrial Supply Co. He also owned and operated The Toy Shop in Manitowoc and Green Bay. After retiring to Stuart in 1976, he worked as a realtor-broker for many years, operating his own company for eight years.

Walter and his future wife, Jean Horlamus, met while students at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

They married November 4, 1944 and settled in Detroit, where their daughter, Helen was born. Daughter

Joan was born shortly after their move to Manitowoc. Throughout their 30 years in Manitowoc, the couple was active in community and church activities, with Walter serving as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Optimist Club and Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Jean H. Huchthausen in 2012, and daughter, Helen Huchthausen Jurow, in 1999. He is survived by daughter, Joan Huchthausen, of Wheaton, Illinois and Stuart, Florida, and two grandsons and their families: Christopher and Teresa (Bratcher) Jurow, their children, Ian and Savannah Jurow, and Cameron and Susan (Myers) Jurow and their children, Brittany, Mariah and Alyssa Jurow and Brian and Kelsey Myers, all of South Carolina.

Family and friends remember Walter as a quiet gentleman with a dry sense of humor; a man of intellect, integrity and abiding faith in the Lord.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., Redeemer Lutheran Church, Stuart, FL, with Pastor David Albers officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until the service, with a luncheon to follow at the fellowship hall. Private burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, WI. Memorials may be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2450 S.E. Ocean Blvd., Stuart, FL 34996.
