She was born in Taintor Iowa, daughter of Paul and Mildred Bandstra. She graduated in 1959 from Pella Christian High School and in 1963 recieved her BA in Education from Calvin College. She obtained her masters in library and education later. She taught for 40 years, primarily at Wyandotte High School in Kansas City Kansas where she started the Debate Club which won many awards over the years. She ended her career as the librarian for Chick Elementary School in Kansas City Missouri.
Gloria is survived by her six siblings, John (Sheila) Bandstra of Iowa, Andy (Connie) Bandstra of Arizona, Jeanne (Allen) Wells of Park Ridge, IL, George (Mary Lou) Bandstra of Clive, Mary (Mark) DeJong and Stuart (Karen) Bandstra all of Pella. Her nieces and nephews are Scott, Mike, Paul, Cary, Zach, Eric, and Kimberly Bandstra; Michelle Bonebrake, Kriss and Craig De Jong, and Andrea Wells. She also has many great nieces and nephews, and a great, great niece and nephew! There are also many cousins and other extended family members.

Ms. Bandstra was my 11th grade English teacher as well as my Debate coach my junior year. She taught me well and always made you look beyond what you could do then and made you think. She was one of my favorites, even when I interupted ongoing debates to take pictures for the yearbook. She was a fantastic teacher and will be missed.
