Hazel was born in her mother Sallie Haddon's home territory, where many other Haddon ancestors and descendants were born and buried. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Harold Maitland Dailey and Sarah Margaret "Sallie" (Haddon) Dailey. Her father died in 1902 and their mother moved close to her brother Elmer in Anacortes, Washington. By age 19 Hazel was living with her widowed mother and a sister in Sacramento, CA and working as a bank stenographer. Hazel married Harold Maitland Briggs and they had one son Robert. She died in 1969 and he died in 1985 after having married Hazel's sister Helen in later life.
