Edward H. Poos, 84, of 953 Hale Ave., died at 4 a.m. today in St. Joseph's Hospital at Highland.
Mr. Poos served as Edwardsville city clerk from 1937 to 1961. He was Edwardsville city treasurer from 1935 to 1937.
An Edwardsville resident since 1907, Mr. Poos was born Oct. 4, 1892 at Hamel. His parents were the late William and Emelie Wilkening Poos.
He was married to Wilma Smith July 24, 1924, in Edwardsville. His wife survives.
Also surviving are daughters, Doris Poos and Mrs. Melvin (Alyne) Trebing, both of Edwardsville, three grandchildren, a great-grandchild and a brother, William Poos of Edwardsville.
Two brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Poos served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1917 to 1918. He was a charter member of American Legion Post 199 and the Last Man's Club of Edwardsville.
Mr. Poos was a member of the Eden United Church of Christ and its churchmen's fellowship.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Saturday in the Weber Funeral Home.
The body will lie in state from noon to 1:30 p.m. funeral services Saturday in the Eden Church, with the Rev. Wesley Bornemann officiating.
Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be given to Eden Church.
