Veteran of the War of 1812. Married Margaret Jack on 29 july, 1819. Samuel died 23 December 1879 in Grafton, Lorain Co., OH. His obit said he was going to his daughter's home and in a hurry, probably getting ready for a Christmas celebration ..died of a heart attack. He was buried in Belden Cemetery, Lorain Co., OH. My Great Great Grandfather... John W. Carroll

Narrative by Blanche Craft:
Samuel Fisk, as a native of Vermont, admired Ethan Allen. He and the Green Mountain Boys were legendary. Samuel Fisk named his first son, Allin, probably in honor of Ethan Allen. When the war of 1812 was being fought, Samuel Fisk, full of patriotism, signed up in Unadilla, Otsego Co., NY.
He was captured pretty quickly, but in an exchange of POWs he was released to go home. He did, but then he signed up again as a substitute for Oliver Gager who lived in Delaware Co., NY (the county just next to Otsego). Samuel served for his enlisted time and in later years, bounty land was given the soldiers of the war of 1812. The government was too broke to pay in money, so they gave them land instead. Samuel signed up for his bounty land and was awarded 40 acres...but after a time he realized he had served two enlistments and merited two warrants...and the war department agreed. They told him to send in his first warrant, for 40 acres and they'd send him one for 80...I have a copy of his military papers and that first warrant for 40 acres, which he sent back, was in his file. I have a copy of it.
Then in 1819 he married Margaret Jack His military papers and his bible record show they married 29 July 1819.
The military papers say the wedding took place in Little Britain Township, Lancaster Co., PA. (I have a hunch Margaret's family were or had been Quaker, but more on that later)..Margaret was born 01 Jan 1801 Chespeck, Cecil Co., MD (bible pages say Chespeck but I think he means Chesapeake) Her parents: James Jack and Mary __?__. She died 25 April 1877 Amherst, Lorain Co., OH buried in Belden Cemetery, Lorain Co., OH Samuel died 23 December 1879 in Grafton, Lorain Co., OH. His obit said he was going to his daughter's home and in a hurry, probably getting ready for a Christmas celebration..died of a heart attack. He was buried in Belden Cemetery, Lorain Co., OH.
The 1820 census for Maryland shows a Samuel Fisk in Cecil Co., MD. I imagine they lived close to her family for a time...perhaps until after her first child was born. Then, they and neighbors named Christie, moved to Steuben Co., NY. They lived there until about 1837 when they moved to Lorain Co., OH. One of my co-searchers said Margaret had come into ownership of some land in Ohio and that's why they moved.I have not seen proof of this, but perhaps it's true. They made a move to Ohio for some reason. It looks as if she went back to PA for some reason and Nancy was born there in 1838. That trip must have been important, to travel when near time for a birth. I wonder if she went back there to claim some inheritance and then moved to land left to her in Ohio...all supposition...
