COLUMBIA - Memorial service for Elma Crouch Whitaker Goddard, 87, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday in Travis Park Cemetery in Saluda, SC.

Mrs. Goddard died Saturday, September 7, 2013. Born in Saluda, she was a daughter of the late Henry Mathew and Jessie Hughes Crouch. She retired from the Social Security Administration and was a member of Rose Hill Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Officers Club at Fort Jackson and was a member of several bridge clubs.

Surviving are her daughters, Marcia Smith (Leon) of Columbia, Elizabeth Clark of Irmo; sons, James Whitaker (Mary) of Columbia, Michael Whitaker (Billie) of Hopkins; sister, Christine Shealy of Saluda; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Goddard; two brothers, Roger H. Crouch and Henry M. Crouch, Jr.; and three sisters, Katie Sedell, Aline Sample, and Rachel Kauffmann.

The family wishes to thank SC Oncology, Dr. Robert Smith, and Nicole for their compassionate care. The family also thanks the staff at NHC-Parklane, especially Dorothy Chan and Nicola, for their love and care.
