As the Kerfoots made their way north into Pennsylvania, they resided in various locations along the way: Markleton in Somerset County; South Connellsville (White Rock) in Fayette County; Monongahela in Washington County; and Dravosburg in Allegheny County.
On September 26, 1896, Susan married John Henry Argyle. They were married by the Reverend Henry C. Parsons in Monongahela, Pennsylvania. They would have 8 children together.
The US Census of 1920 showed Susan living in Dravosburg, she gives her marital status as married. John is living 250 miles away in Nanticoke Township, Luzerne County; he also gives his marital status as married.
On December 31, 1924, John married Margaret Powell in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County. On the marriage application he lists previous marriages as 'none'.
Apparently, Susan was unaware of her husband taking a second wife, and she listed herself as 'married' in the US Censuses of 1930 and 1940. There is no record of divorce that I could find. All the evidence seems to indicate that John was a bigamist.
Susan continued living in Dravosburg. At times living with her son, John; other times living alone.
On March 22, 1949, Susan was admitted to Woodville State Hospital in Collier Township. She would remain a patient there until her death.
On May 27, 1953 at 4:55 PM, Susan was pronounced dead. Her cause of death was listed as arteriosclerosis, a thickening and hardening of the arteries.
On Saturday, May 30, 1953, Susan was laid to rest at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania.
