Johnnie Benward Joiner, 83, a long-time resident of Jacksonville Beach, passed away surrounded by all of his children on September 6, 2013.
Johnnie retired as Captain of the Jacksonville Beach Fire Department and also owned a successful tractor business for many years. He was a Navy veteran who served at Mayport, Florida in 1949, was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Ocean Park Baptist Church. He was a loving and devoted father who enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, bowling and operating heavy equipment.
Johnnie was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Waunie Giles Joiner. He is survived by his son, John Paul Joiner and his wife Karen Joiner; daughter, Dorothy L. Long and her husband, John E. Long; and daughter, Chris Harris; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great- great granddaughter; brother; two nieces that he was raised with and two sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm Tuesday, Sept. 10th in the Chapel of HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach with Dr. John Boone presiding. Interment will follow in Beaches Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday (TODAY) from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
