Russell Dean Hicks

Russell Dean Hicks was born June 30, 1925 at Corkery, MO. the son of Truman and Ollie Poynter Hicks. He died September 8, 2013 at his home north of Buffalo, MO at the age of 88 years.

Dean graduated from Tunas High School in 1943 and then served his country in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.

On June 26, 1954 he was united in marriage with Dorothy Ann Dobler and to this union two daughters were born: Patricia Ann and Tammy Dean.

Dean was a lifelong farmer. He and Dorothy had a farm in the Leadmine area, then in 1982 they moved to a farm north of Buffalo. Even with his health failing, he and Dorothy loved to check his cattle while riding in his John Deere tractor.

Dean loved to fish and hunt and even after his health no longer permitted this he liked to watch the squirrels outside the family room window. Dean loved to eat biscuits and gravy at Hardees and eat fish at the Salebarn and visit with the people there.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Dale and Don and an infant sister, Dorothy. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of 59 years; two daughter: Patricia Ann Berry and husband, Jerry of Tunas. Tammy Dean Howerton and husband, Tom of Long Lane; two grandsons: William Berry and wife, Kim, of Tunas, Gary Berry and wife, Kathy, of Fair Grove; 4 great grandchildren: Bricker, Nicki ,Katelyn, and Ryan Berry; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Dean will be missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wed. Sept. 11th at 2:00 p.m. in the Montgomery-Viet Chapel. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery under direction of the Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the New Hope Cemetery fund.
