WHITE RIVER, SD - This community was severely shocked Thursday morning upon learning of the sad death of Mrs Sam Brown, after an illness of little more than two weeks. Mrs Brown, wife of Sam Brown, fell prey to influenza March 24th and had almost recovered, being able to sit up a short time each day. She had stomach trouble for years. Wednesday, April 9th she took a sudden turn for the worse and died early Thursday morning, April 10th. Birdie Richardson, daughter of W R and Eliza Richardson was born in Atchinson County, MO, October 3, 1886 [sic]. She grew to womanhood in a Christian home and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She moved with her parents to Watson, MO, where she was married to Joe Hancherin 1888. Of this union, one son, Eugene was born. Mr Hancher died many years ago. She was married to Sam P Brown October 27, 1917 at Oregon, MO, and leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Sam Brown of White River; her son, Eugene Hancher of Richmond, CA; four brothers and four sisters, namely: A C Richardson of Bliss, OK, A F Richardson of Valentine, NE, Al Richardson of Murdo, SD, Jess Richardson of Telleride, CO, Mrs J Johns of California,Mrs E Jones of Brewater, CO, Mrs Violet Dagrafenred of Hotchkiss, CO, Mrs Dillen Kimbel of Phelps, MO. We extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved. Mrs Brown was a loyal Christian neighbor and all who knew her, loved her. Her untimely death is a great loss to our community. the funeral was held in the open air at the home Friday, April 11, conducted by Rev Van Valkenburgh and was largely attended. One brother, Al Richardson of Murdo was present. Interment is in the White River Cemetery.
