April 14, 1938 - September 8, 2013

GREENFIELD – John M. Holden, age 75, of Greenfield, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born on April 14, 1938 in Indianapolis as the son of Uriah I. and Marie L. (Harris) Holden. He served in the Navy as a surveyor.

He worked for Banquet Milk Company for twenty years. He was also self-employed as a salvage dealer and did auctions all across the state of Indiana. At one time, he owned a sewing machine company on Mount Street in Greenfield. Mr. Holden was a member of the Conservation Club in Greenfield and attended King's Highway Tabernacle in Fountain Square. In his free time, John enjoyed fishing, especially for bass, crappie and catfish, hunting, and trapping. He also loved watching Westerns.

Surviving him are his loving wife of thirty years, Marsha Carmer of Greenfield; children, John M. (Teena) Holden of Fishers, Judith L. Cope of Fort Meyers, Florida, James U. (Pam Tiller) Holden of Fortville, Margie Holden-Emery of Greenfield, Gail (Terry) French of Missouri, David (Becky) Holden of Greenfield; brother, David (Margaret) Holden of Martinsville; step-children, Tammy (Ben) Carmer-Swinehart of Carthage, Wendy (Doyle) Fuller of Knightstown; thirty grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents, Uriah and Marie Holden; infant son, Gene Holden; brother, Cecil Holden; and sister, Pat Nabough.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. also at the Mortuary. Don Young will be officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Park East in Indianapolis.
