I adopted Rocket , a beautiful little black and tan cocker spaniel, from West Michigan Humane Society, for my son Edward Simpson when Edward was 7 years old. Rocket was his best love, teaching him about love, affection and care for another being, sometimes i think even more than i did. Rocket was out salvation when Edward and i left a bad family situation and moved to another city and state so I could start graduate work. Edward and i walked her twice a day, and this became a time for us to talk just together.

Rocket was incredibly smart, smarter than my son's third grade teacher:). We had to spell many words in front of her because she had a huge English vocabulary. I called her "Mom," because she knew exactly what time she got her cookie, and would boss Edward into the bath, so she could get the cookie at night. She bossed me into bed if I stayed up too late working on a paper.

She put up with Edward dressing her up in bride costumes one Halloween and she saved us twice from intruders.

She always knew when we were upset and would sleep with her back up against ours for comfort. We had her for 10 years.
