Salt Lake City, Utah-Our kind and loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather Kent B Monsen passed away on September 9th 2013 at the age of 88. He had a short battle with cancer and passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family in his home. He was preceded in death by his loving eternal companion Lorna Helen Olsen Monsen; parents Hans Paul and Alta Monsen, two brothers; Grover (Jean), Roger (Nan) and a sister Jean (Paul) Herrscher. He is survived by his children; Paul (Judy), Heidi (Brad), Mark (Linda), 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren (whom he loved dearly) and his wife Laurelie Twede Monsen. Kent was born in Mount Pleasant Utah and moved to Salt Lake City when he was young. He attended South High School and graduated from the University of Utah. Kent served his country for three years during World War II in North Africa and Italy where he was an instrument repairman for the Army Air Force. He married Lorna Olsen on September 3rd 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. Kent was the founder of North Monsen Company in 1956 and worked there until his death. His specialty was dust collection and air pollution control. He was loved and appreciated by his customers all over the world. He was also involved in starting Monsen Engineering in 1974. He was an ambitious hard worker and very successful in all he did. Kent was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including; a Bishopric, Elders Quorum, Young Men's Presidency and President of the Sunday School. He was full of wisdom and influenced the lives of many people in his callings. Kent was a kind loving father and included his family in all that he did. He taught not only by word but also by example. His motto was a family that plays together stays together…. And we played a lot! He loved the great outdoors from jeeping, camping, snowmobiling, skiing, hunting, fishing, boating, four wheeling and most recently vacationing in his motor home and riding his spyder motorcycle. Kent married Laurelie Twede on Nov 16th, 2012 and enjoyed being with her family Lorin (Regina), Brian (Claudia), and Evan. A viewing will be held in his honor Thursday September 12th 2013 from 6-8pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial 3401 Highland Drive. Funeral Services will be held at the Valley View first ward 2245 East 3900 South on September 13th 2013 at 12:00 noon with a viewing prior at 10:30 to 11:45. Internment at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary.
