Services for Mattoon Principal Wednesday

MATTOON--Services for Mrs. Emma Phillips, 61, principal of Washington grade school here for over 20 years, who died suddenly Sunday following a heart attack, probably will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips' death came as a shock to this community. She seemed in good health and underwent an operation of the nose July 1 in Mattoon Memorial hospital. She was stricken with a heart attack Saturday morning.
She was born April 4, 1874, in Charleston, the daughter of Richard Graham and Hannah Cullin. She leaves her husband, James B. Phillips, three brothers, WIlliam Graham of Woodward, Ok., Richard Graham of Little Rock, Ark., John Graham of Indianapolis, and a sister, Mrs. Frank Allender of Los Angeles.
Mrs. Phillips is the third principal of Mattoon schools to pass away within the last three years. The others were Ida C. Turnbull, principal of the high school, and Katherine Keeley, principal of Hawthorne school.
