Harris DeWilde was born to Marinus and Helen (Heersma) DeWilde on November 20, 1931 in Pipestone, Minnesota where he was raised and attended school. After his graduation from Pipestone High School in 1948, he worked on the railroad. In August, 1952, he entered the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War until his discharge in June, 1954. Following his discharge, he attended college at S.D.S.U. in Brookings, South Dakota for two years. In 1957, he started farming in Fountain Prairie Township near Holland, Minnesota until his retirement in 1985.

Harris was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. He was also a member of Earl Gruis American Legion Post #534 in Holland and the Senior Citizens in Pipestone and Holland. He enjoyed all high school sports and was a member of the Sportsman Club.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2013, Harris died at the Sanford Health Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 82 years.

He is lovingly remembered by one niece, Lynn Carlson of Pipestone, Minnesota; and two nephews, Tom Carlson of Bruce, South Dakota, and Larry Carlson of Bruce, South Dakota; two great-nephews, Terry and Brendan; and one great-niece, Jessica.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Phyllis Carlson.
