Pocatello-Leroy "Sonny" H Estes Jr, 69, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at a local long-term care center.

He was born October 21, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, to Leroy H and Edith (Oldham) Estes Sr. Sonny was raised and educated in California and after his schooling he entered into the U.S.Navy. After serving his country he became a longhaul truck driver.

Leroy has one son, Jeremy, two stepsons, Scott Hyde and Stan Rhodes, and a stepdaughter, Debbie Bowne.

He was active in the Catholic faith. He loved music and music was his life. He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, dabbled in music writing, and poetry, in which some were published. Not only did Sonny like watching sports, he was quite involved in football, baseball, basketball and soccer in his younger and current years of life. He also liked to collect and assemble model airplanes.

He is survived by his son, Jeremy Estes, Wasilla, Alaska; stepsons, Scott Hyde, California and Stan Rhodes, Idaho and stepdaughter Debbie Bowne, Idaho. He is also survived by his life's love, Diane Baldwin, Idaho; sisters, Beverly Evasic and Cathy Sullivan; a granddaughter, Niomi Estes, Alaska;Stepgrandsons. Wyatt and Levi Dieffenbacher, California; step-granddaughters, Desirae Wren,Idaho, Rhyanna, Madison and Mikayla Rhodes, all of Idaho; and step great-grandson, Jagger Wren, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Per Sonny's wishes there will be no public services at this time. Arrangements are under the care of Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave, Pocatello.
