Former Apostolic Nuncio in Zimbabwe and Archbishop of the Titular See of Tituli in Numidia, Monsignor Peter Paul Prabhu was born in Chennai, southern India's Tamilnadu State on March 20, 1931, and was ordained to the priesthood on December 20, 1955. Entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1962, he served successively in Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Chile, France and Sudan. Assigned to the Pontifical Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Tourism in 1977, ten years later he was appointed under-secretary of what is now called the Pontifical Council for Migrants and Itinerant People in Rome, a post he served for the next five years, when at 62 years of age, Pope John Paul II named him Apostolic Nuncio in Zimbabwe, receiving his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Tituli in Numidia on January 6, 1994, from the named Pope, assisted by Archbishops Giovanni Battista Re and Josip Uhac.

Resigning from office at 71 years of age on July 1, 2002, the Archbishop spent his last years at the Domus Sanctæ Marthæ at the Vatican City, where in 2013, he became neighbour to Pope Francis I, who took up an apartment in the same floor. Suffering from frail health in his last months, he passed away at the Clinica Pio XI in Rome, in the early hours of Tuesday, September 10, 2013, aged 82.

Funeral Mass, presided by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone SDB., was held at the church of Santo Stefano degli Abissini inside the Vatican City on Friday, September 13, at 9 am., saw the participation among others of Cardinals Angelo Sodano, Agostino Cacciavillan, Renato Raffaele Martino and Manuel Monteiro de Castro, ten Archbishops and thirty priests. Interment followed at the Campo Verano Cemetery.
