Saige Elizabeth Alemnesh Burke, age 3, of Crown Point, IN, left this world for her heavenly home on Saturday, December 29, 2012 following an unexpected, brief illness.
Saige was a beautiful little girl with a big heart and an even bigger smile who dearly loved her family, enjoyed life to its fullest, and brought joy to the lives of everyone she met.
In the final weeks preceding her death, Saige would announce daily, "Mama, I'm happy. Are you happy too?" It is Saige's happiness that will be remembered and missed the most. With all the energy a 3-year-old can possess, Saige loved to play with cars, trucks and any sport that included a ball; but she also relished her quiet, snuggly moments looking at books, playing with dolls and getting lost in her imagination.
For family and friends, it is hard to imagine a world without Saige. She was the joy of her mother, Jane Burke's, life. Born in Ethiopia, Saige was adopted as an infant by Jane into her "forever family" in Crown Point.
She is survived by her mother, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and 15 cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Burt Reehling of Crown Point, IN formerly of Marion, IN.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Living Hope Church, Merrillville, IN where Saige attended pre-school.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM with Rev. Bryant Haney officiating. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Grant Memorial Park in Marion, IN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to: Jane Burke for the benefit of The Good Shepherd Day Care at Living Hope Church or to be given to adoption services to be selected by the family.
