OBITUARY--Mrs. Pearl Aiken
Margaret Pearl Thompson, daughter of William and Maria Varner Thompson, was born in Chambersburg, Pike County, Ill., on October 18, 1877. She passed away at Culbertson hospital in Rushville, March 24, 1966, at the age of 78 years 5 months and 6 days.
On January 6, 1909, in Chambersburg, Ill., she was united in marriage to Monroe Aiken, who departed this life in December 1955. Four children came to bless this home, Geneva of Mt. Sterling, Dorothy (Mrs. Marion Meyers), of Rushville, and Richard of Greenview. One daughter, Marjorie, passed away at the age of four years.
Early in her life she became a member of the Christian church of Chambersburg. Later she transferred her membership to the church at Versailles, where for many years she served her church as a musician and taught in the Sunday school. Up until the condition of her health prevented, she always appeared before her class with a well prepared lesson, and a stock of good advice, kindly given and well received.
Besides her bereaved children, she leaves to mourn her passing, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchioldren; threee brothers, Archie and irving of Chambersburg, Grover of Doniphan, Nebraska; and one sister, Mrs. Della Hinton of Chambersburg. Her parents; three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
She attended Western Illinois University and taught in the county schools for 12 years. She enjoyed her teaching and lover her pupils. They were devoted to her and will testify in years to come, she had much to give and gave it generously.
Her suffering was long, she bore it well, now her earthly life is done. Her influence and personality will remain as a benediction to influence and guide others in the manner in which she lived.
Funeral services were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, Marach 26th, at Rounds Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Marshall Ervin, pastor of the Rushville Methodist church officiating.
Casketbearers were Charles Metz, Dean Dunbar, Gaylord Root, Eugene Meyers, Vail Reeves and Herschel Kleinlein. Burial was in the Versailles Cemetery.

Sterling, who passed away at 12:30 Thursday morning, March 24th, at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville, were held at two o'clock Saturday (next line unreadable) Chapel, with Rev. Marshall Ervin, pastor of the Rushville Methodist church, officiating. Mrs. Clyde Myers was organist.
Casketbearers were Charles Metz, Dean Dunbar, Gaylord Root, Eugene Meyers, Vail Reeves and Herschel Kleinlein. Burial was made in the Versailles Cemetery.
