Known to some as "Bill" and by others as "Dub" (short for "dubya," the first letter of his first name). Bill attended Cave Springs School and then went on to Happy Valley High School but he left before graduating to join the Army during the Korean War.
He retired with 31 years of total honorable military service. Bill also retired from many years service with Pharmaseal, later named Baxter, as an industrial maintenance mechanic. Bill had a fascination with trains, both the real ones and scale models, and knives. He loved candy.
William B. "Bill" Johnson, 79, Johnson City, went to be with Jesus Thursday, October 6, 2011 at his residence.
A native of [Carter] County, he was a son of the late James L[eonard] and Jessie V[ean] Watson Johnson. He was an active member of the First Christian Church, Elizabethton, until his health would not permit. He retired from Baxter and was a retired US Army veteran of 30 years.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2011, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Brent Nidiffer, David Slayton and Dr. C. Dwayne Baird officiating. Music will be provided by Gary Simerly. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Friday, will be Bob Blevins, Jason Wiseman, Randy Lewis, Dwight Douglas, Tom Willens, Wayne Story and Bill Harvey.
The family would like to offer thanks to Amedisys Home Health and Amedisys Hospice also to Dr. David Jones, Dr. Jim Goss, Dr. Mark Williams and all staff physicians.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Johnson to the First Christian Church Choir, c/o Gene Estep, 513 Hattie Avenue, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643.
Military honors will be provided by the American Legion & Tennessee National Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Friday.
