Theodore R. Rosenberg, also known as 'Mr. Magnificent,' 80, of Bonita Springs, FL received his fi nal assignment to Arlington National Cemetery on September 12 after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He died at home surrounded by family.
Ted was born August 6, 1933 in Nyack, NY and lived in Haverstraw, NY prior to joining the Army in 1955. He graduated from Peekskill Military High School, obtained a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Connecticut, and an MBA from Wharton, University of Pennsylvania.
Over the years, he served in a variety of countries and posts including Germany, Thailand, twice in Korea, Vietnam and in many US States. Ted was a 1975 graduate of the Army War College, Carlisle, PA. He taught at the Industrial War College from 1979 until he retired from the Army as a Colonel in 1982. COL Rosenberg's decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal (2 clusters), the Army Meritorious Service Medal, the Vietnam Medal of Honor, presented by the Government of Vietnam in 1966, and the Meritorious Service Medal presented by the Government of Korea in 1973.
Upon leaving the Army, Ted joined The Burney Company, of Falls Church, VA, as a Portfolio Manager. In 1982, he was named Vice President of Marketing. Mary McVay became his business partner in 1985 and helped him grow the business. He was seen frequently on 'The Nightly Business Report', on PBS television.
A resident of Bonita Springs, FL (Pelican Landing) since 1993, Ted spent half the year in Oakton, VA and was an active volunteer in many organizations. These included being on the board of the Army Transportation Museum, 'Our Daily Bread' in VA, the University of Connecticut Foundation Board, the Wharton Society Board, DC Chapter, president of the Bonita Springs Men's Club, and a Supervisor of the Bay Creek Development District of Pelican Landing. He was most proud of the numerous scholarships he and Mary McVay established over the years at the University of Connecticut and Virginia Tech.
His awards include the UCONN Business School Hall of Fame, and the Wharton 'Man of the Year', Washington, DC Chapter.
Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Mary F. McVay; his daughter, Martha Aldee Rosenberg, son, Bradley Rosenberg; and their mother, Eleanor Rosenberg; his brother, Richard (Carolee) Rosenberg of Palm Desert, CA and their two daughters, Carlin and Rhonda Rosenberg; his mother-in-law, Stella McVay; and his inlaws, Barry (Vi) McVay, Thomas (Karen) McVay, Barbara McVay and four nephews and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Rosenberg and Rebecca Sheer Rosenberg.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Shikany's Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail, Bonita Springs, FL 34134.
