A fatal accident occurred on the highway between Mahtowa and Barnum Wed. morning at 10:30, when Clarence William Mitchell fell from a loaded truck and was instantly killed. It was only a trick of fate which caused the death of Clarence instead of his brother, Wallace, who would ordinarily have been on the truck on this trip. As the truck with its load was unusually high, it was necessary for some one to be up on it and see that it cleared light and telephone wires along the way. Mr. Mitchell was detailed for this job, taking the place of his brother, Wallace, who was steadily in the employ of the Wood Conversion Co., but laid off for a week, beginning the day of his brothers death. They had safely negotiated the distance between Cloquet and Mahtowa and were about two miles south of that place when evidently Mr. Mitchell failed to observe some wires ahead, which caught him right across the neck, throwing him to the ground with such force that his neck was broken and he died instantly....He is survived by his parents Mr.& Mrs. Fred Mitchell, Cloquet with whom he made his home;& 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Mrs. A.A.Price(Wilder, MN);Miss Mrytle at home; Alfred (married) of Cloquet & Russell & Wallace at home. In addition Aunt Mrs. Henry Lammerst, Hinkley and cousins Nick, Joe, Doris Karpen and Mrs. George Lowis all on adjacent farms. He recently joined the Eagles Lodge of Cloquet. He was born in Cloquet on Feb. 7, 1903, thus being 28 years of age. He was married at one time, but had been separated from his wife for a number of years. Funeral services have not been completed secured, but will be held at his parents home either Friday or Sat. with Rev. E.E. Lemire officiating.
