Florence B. Andersen of Salinas California died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 91 on Friday, August 23, 2013 with her beloved dog, Nacona, by her side.

Florence was born in San Francisco on April 12, 1922 and moved to Salinas with her mother, Florence, when she was 12 years old. She attended Salinas High School and Hartnell College.

She was engaged to the love of her life, John Andersen, before WWII began. She worked as a Navy women's recruiter until he returned home. They married shortly afterwards and had 2 children, Kristi and Terry.

They resided in a duplex which they shared with their dearest friends, Jack and Ida Laurie. Florence and Ida would shop with their strollers and pile groceries on Kristi and Bruce.

Not long afterwards, John and Florence built the 3rd house in Ambler Park of San Banancio Canyon and were followed a year later by Jack and Ida Laurie who built their house next door. They raised their kids together and were friends all of their lives.

Florence dedicated her life's work to driving a school bus for over 20 years, transporting handicapped children. Florence had a heart for "specially abled" kids.

Volunteering was a way of life for Florence. She served at Church of the Good Shepard from the day she first joined. She drove for Meals on Wheels, was active in the PTA, and led girl and boy scout troops. In addition she volunteered for the Monterey County Jail and Soledad Prison. She was active in bible study groups and received certificates in theology.

Florence enjoyed her book club and a dream study club. She took joy in her garden as well as her artistic pursuits of painting and pottery. She enjoyed frequent family picnics in Big Sur and spending time at the cabin they built in the Sierras. She did some beautiful paintings, and lots of interesting pottery which we are all enjoying. God Bless you Mom.

"Mom was a great lady, soft, tender, wise, compassionate, calm and full of wisdom. She really lived within all of the words of God and Jesus Christ all her life. She taught all of us what a truly wonderful life we can have with God in our lives. Katy my daughter always called her Mother Teresa."

Florence is survived by her daughter Kristi (Frank) Lucio and her son Terry Andersen. Great Grandson: Michael J. Peifer Nichole (Nikki), Great Great Grandson Hudson Peifer, and soon to arrive Mason Peifer Great Great Grandson who is due October 18, 2013. She was so happy to be a Great Great Grandmother and got to feel Mason kicking, and Great Grandson: Cody R. Hubbard. Closest extended family: Jack, Ida, Bruce and Alan Laurie.

She was predeceased by her dear husband John Andersen (b. 12 Oct 1918 d. 10 Feb 1989), her parents Florence Ethel (Barry) Boyd Elliott (b. 26 May 1893 d.9 Jun 1978), father Guy Clifford Boyd (b. 09 Jun 1892 d.1964) and her step-father, Gilbert Beach Elliott,(01 Jan 1892 d. 22 Dec 1942; FAG 87858192), and grandchildren Michael Robert Peifer (b. 24 May 1970 d. 25 Sep 1980) and Katy L. Haines.
