George Frederick Pearson,
Rear Admiral.

Naval officer, born in Exeter, New Hampshire on February 6, 1796; died in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on June 30, 1867.

He was appointed Midshipman, 11 March, 1815, and cruised in the frigates USS United States and USS Independence in the Mediterranean in 1816-1820, and in the West Indies in 1822-1823.

He was commissioned a Lieutenant on January 13, 1825, commanded the schooner USS Shark at Norfolk VA in 1839, and served at the Portsmouth Navy Yard in 1839-1841.

He was promoted to Commander on 8 September 8, 1841. He was aboard the USS Falmouth at Norfolk VA in 1852-1853, and became Captain on September 14, 1855. He commanded the steamer USS Powhatan in the East Indies in 1858-1860.

During the Civil War he rendered valuable service as Commandant of the Portsmouth Navy Yard, which post he held at his death. He was retired by law, being over sixty-two years old on December 21, 1861, and became Commodore on the retired list on July 16, 1862, and Rear Admiral on July 25, 1866.

There is a memorial window to him at St. Johns Church in Portsmouth.
