PETER BOTTEN, CARSON, DIES OF HEART ATTACK
Carson lost one of its most prominent citizens when death at 3 o'clock Monday morning claimed Peter Botten, aged 62. He died at his home in Carson of a heart attack which followed a two year illness.
During his residence in North Dakota, Mr. Botten had been identified with the banking business, although for the past several years he had devoted his time to the Botten Motor Company, which he founded. He was especially interested in educational work and served for many years on the school board at Carson.
Mr. Botten was born in Madelia, Minnesota, in 1870, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James P Botten. Following his graduation from Mankato Normal School, he taught for several years in the schools of Minnesota. In 1893 Mr. Botten was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Nostdal and the following year moved to Donnybrook, North Dakota, where they settled on a homestead. He later engaged in the banking business in Donnybrook where he resided for ten years, when he moved to western North Dakota, locating first at Bentley. In addition to his banking interests at Bentley, Mr. Botten opened a hardware store and implement business. In 1920 he moved to Carson where he became cashier of the First State Bank, a position he held until the First Bank became affiliated with the Northwest Bank corporation about two years ago. Sice that time he has been active head of the Botten Motor Company.
Mr. Botten was a member of the Scandinavian Lutheran Church and was a member of the Knights of Pythias and A O U W lodges.
Surviving members of the family include his widow and six sons, Emmons, Arthur, Gordon, Ralph, and James of Carson, and Harry of Minneapolis. His aged mother and a sister living in Freeman, Oregon, and another sister in New York City and three brothers also survive.
Services at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Presbyterian church in Carson with Reverend Norlie of Flasher officiating.
