This census was conducted on 10 June at which time Baby Bancroft was age 3 months, placing her birth ca. March 1865. The 1870 federal census of Ledyard, Cayuga Co., New York lists Jennie as "Jane," which may or may not have been her given name (Jennie is used for this memorial based on her inscription on the Bancroft monument). She was listed as 5 years old in this census. No census record is found for the William F. Bancroft family in 1875. The Town of Ledyard appears to be missing from the 1875 New York State Census.
