Robert (Bob) Lake, long-time Elko School District educator, passed away of a heart attack at his home. He was to George and Alice Lake in Brainerd, Minnesota.

Bob graduated from Brainerd High school in 1956. Prior to high school graduation and shortly thereafter, he was the voice of Paul Bunyan at Paul Bunyan Land in Brainerd. Also, after high school graduation and through college, he was employed at a paper mill.

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Karen Jean Paulson in 1959. He attended St. Cloud State University in Minnesota and received his Bachelors Degree in Education in 1960 and relocated to Elko as a math teacher at Grammar #1.

During his first summer with the school district, Bob was hired as a rural school maintenance man. He and his wife Jean traveled to Rowland, Midas, and other one room schools to do the summer maintenance. They would wax floors, paint the inside and outside of the schools, clean the desks, and perform other maintenance tasks.

There were no services available in those locations so they literally camped out. The next summer Bob worked for the forest service cleaning campgrounds and assisting forest visitors.

When Grammar #1 was vacated, Bob transferred to Elko High School as a math and social studies teacher under the principal-ship of Edwin Jensen.

In the late sixties, Bob received his Master's Degree at the Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. Shortly thereafter, he started the first Special Education program at Elko High School.

Bob Lake taught in the Elko County School District for 35 years and was Senior Class Advisor at Elko High School for 28 of these years, from 1968 until he retired in 1996. In his entire tenure with Elko County School District, Bob never took a sick day.

During his teaching career, Bob took a job at Elko Broadcasting in the evenings and weekends for 26 years and was inducted into Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2001. In his 26 years at the radio station, Bob never took a sick day. During his tenure at the radio station in the 70's, Mr. Lake started the Elko High School radio program called "War Whoops", a program that continues to this day. Also, for many years of his teaching career and up to 2003, Bob drove a school bus for the Elko County School District.

Bob's wife, Jean, passed away in 2003 from cancer. Bob and Jean were married for 44 years. After the death of his wife, Bob moved to Idaho. During this time, he also lived in Hawaii, where he taught Special Education. When living in Hawaii, he traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, and various other South Pacific islands. After moving back to Boise, Bob marred Mary Louise Bryant in Boise, Idaho on October 26, 2011.

In addition to his wife, Jean, Bob was predeceased by his father and mother, and brother, Jim. Bob is survived by his currant wife Mary of Boise, Idaho, son Brett (Alison) Lake of Shreveport, Louisiana, grandson Christopher Lake of Texarkana, Texas, granddaughter Delaney Lake of Seattle, Washington, brother Jack of Colorado, and various nieces and nephews.

Robert G. Lake, 75, of Meridian, died Friday, September 6, 2013 at his home in Meridian. Cremation arrangements are at Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel, Meridian.
