William was the son of Jobe Allen Maynor and Delila Evaline Dennis, and his siblings were Nancy Elizabeth 'Lizzie', who married Jackson Bates; Malissa Juletta 'Letty' who married Chris Kirkland, Lillie Ann married Henry Norwood; James Monroe married Mattie Goforth; and two little brothers, Sibbie and Bennie who died young.

William married Margaret 'Maggie' Womack, daughter of Watts Womac and Mary King, and their only son, Willie, married Lula Rose.

According to family lore, William was working at a logging camp in 1896 or so on Star Mountain when some of the equipment malfunctioned and he was killed, or severely injured and died later.

A note from his Uncle Jack Bates says William Maynor died 11 November 1896 at home in McFarland, and there are no other William Maynor's in the area at that time. So, it's possible he was severely wounded and was actually at home when he died.

After William's death, Maggie married George Moss. As far as is known there were no children from that marriage. George was ten years older than Maggie, and had been previously married to Hulda Goforth who died before 1900, probably within two years of their marriage.
