Conrad Charles Fried, a three year resident of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Shandelee, NY, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at his home. He was 89.
The third of four children born to the late Charles and Marie O'Brien Fried, he was born October 28, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY.
Conrad spent his early working years in New York City as an artist, illustrator and draftsman. His work as a draftsman and his ingenuity led to work in mechanical design in North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland while continuing to create beautiful paintings. In 1977 he moved back to Sullivan County where he had spent many happy summers as a boy with his family. There he continued to paint and began writing short stories and making short films.

He was married to Marian Campbell Fried who passed away in 1976. His daughter, Yolanda Fried; his sisters, Marjorie Luycks and Elaine de Kooning and his brother, Peter Fried, also predeceased him.
Graveside services will be Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 3 p.m. in the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe, NY. Following the ceremony, a reception for friends and family will be held at Lanza's Country Inn, 839 Shandelee Road, Livingston Manor, NY.
