Curwensville Man Dies in Crash

A Curwensville man is dead and four other hospitalize following a violent two-car crash on the brickyard curve of Route 322 three-quarters of a mile west of Curwensville Saturday night.

Dead-on-arrival at the Clearfield Hospital was Albert L. Quigley, 48, of Lippert Street, the driver of one of the cars.

In Satisfactory condition at the Clearfiel Hosptial are:

--James Hand Jr. 16, of Curwensville, R. D., a passenger in the Quigley car, cuts of the face and scalp and leg.

--Thomas M. Tallant, 26, Rochester, Minn., the other driver, cuts of the right hand and scalp.

--Mr. Tallant's wife, Marlene, 25, back injury, cuts of nose and hip and leg injuries.

The couple's two-month-old daughter, Theresa, suffered no apparent injuries but was hospitalized with her mother. Another passenger in the Quigley car, William Young, 19. of Warren, a hitchhiker, was treated at the hospital for cuts and then released.

State police from the Clearfield substation reported that the cars were traveling in opposite directions when the collision occured at 9:55 p.m.

Police said Mr. Quigley, who was traveling west on Route 322, lost control of his car and skidded broadside into the oncoming Tallant vehicle. The impact of the crash literally tore the Quigley car apart.

CURWENSVILLE - Albert L. (Enoch) Quigley, 48, of Lippert Street, Curwensville, who was killed instantly Saturday evening in an automobile accident, was born Jan. 18, 1920 at Grampian, a son of James and Anna (Donahue) Quigley.

He was a resident of Curwensville for the last 15 years. Prior to that, he lived in Clearfield.

Married May 12, 1950, in New York to the former Enid Evans, he was an employe of Soult Wholesale Lumber Co. for the past three years.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with Battery B, 405 Coast Artillary battalion, Anit-Aircraft. He was a member of the Grampian American Legion.

Mr. Quigley is survived by his wife, one son, Eric James, at home and the following step-children; Jake Adams of Clearfield, Mrs. Ronald Vaughn of Way, N.J. and Judith Adams of Washington, D.C.

Four grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters also survive: Mrs. Lester (Maude) Wright, Williamsport; Willard and Robert, Grampian; Mrs. Richard (Elizabeth) Metzger, Williamsport; Anna Marie, Edward and Pauline, all of Grampian; Mrs. Ward (Josephine) Cathcart, Olanta; and Mrs. Edwin (Helen) Litz, Clearfield.

He was preceded in death by his mother in July 1964, his father in November 1968, and a brother.

Funeral services will be held in the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph McTague officiating. Interment will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park. Full military services will be conducted.

Friends will be received in the funeral home from 2 p.m. today until the hour of services.

Prayers for the departed will be recited in the funeral home at 7 p.m. tonight.
