Rowland Ford was the son of Joseph Ford 1 and Isabella Smith. He was married to Susan Vosberg and they had 13 children. He owned a business in Portneuf and built the house known as "Woodend". He donated the land for the Woodend Protestant Cemetery in 1901 which was later added to by his nephew Thomas B.B.Ford. There was a cemetery in nearby Halesboro (a town that no longer exists)for Anglicans but the closest cemetery for other protestants was in Quebec City. At the time, most of the Fords in Portneuf were Presbyterian, so they felt that it would be nice to have a burial ground locally. Later the Presbyterians joined with some other protestant denominations and became the United Church of Canada.
