Last Rites Held For Mrs. James Vaughan
Deceased Was One Of Early Pioneers Of Waseca County
Mrs. James Vaughan, one of the well-known pioneer residents of the Janesville and Waseca communities died last Friday morning at her home in Alton. She had been in good health up to two weeks ago when her health began to fail.
The funeral services were held Monday morning from St. Ann's Church, Janesville. Rev. Father Parkinson officiated at the requiem mass, after which the remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in St. Ann's Cemetery. Catherine O'Locklin, daughter of John and Honora O'Locklin was born July 26, 1846, in Ireland and was eighty-five years old at her death.
Her marriage to James Vaughan took place at Fox Lake, Wisconsin and they lived in Montello, Wis., until 1873, when they came to Waseca County and settled in Alton, where she has since resided with the exception of eleven years she lived in Waseca.
She was a good faithful wife and mother and beloved and esteemed by her numerous friends for her kindly sympathetic, cheerful disposition.
Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn were the parents of nine children, eight of whom survive as follows: Mrs. Hannah Mulcahey, James Vaughan, John J. Vaughan, Mrs. Andrew Lang, Dennis Vaughan and Agnes, Edward and Catherine at home. There are also twenty grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
The pallbearers were Wm. O'Brien, James McBride, James Foley, James Joyce, Wm. Gallagher and John Burke. The relatives from away who came to attend the funeral were M. L. Vaughan and daughters Veronica and Mary of Buffalo, Dan Vaughan of Waverly, Mike Vaughan and son Francis of Montello, Wis., Dan Vaughan and Mrs. John Brennan of Rochester and Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Madden of Austin.
