David W. Duke of Tower Lakes Funeral services for David W. Duke, 75, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home, 235 N. Main St., Wauconda. Born April 1, 1928, in Washington, D.C., he passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, in Evanston. Interment will be in Windridge Memorial Park, Cary, following the services. Mr. Duke attended the University of Maryland and graduated from Pensacola Naval Academy in 1952. He was the commanding officer for the Reserve Training Unit #51 and the Air Transport Squadron 1213, and retired as a Navy captain in 1988. He was a pilot with Capitol Air starting in 1957, and retired from United Airlines as a captain in 1988. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Clinton, Md., was a member of the Retired United Pilots Association (RUPA), Airline Pilots Association (ALPA), McHenry Country Club and Meadows Country Club in Sarasota, Fla. Mr. Duke was an accomplished cabinet maker and restored his farm house in Tower Lakes that had originally been built in 1865. He was the beloved husband of Thomasine "Tommy"; loving father of Michael (Jo), Tina (Terence) Winsky and Roberta (Andrew) Gargac; stepfather of Terri Landa, Tammera Landa, Scott (Mary) Landa and Cari (Rich) Meyer; devoted grandfather of Dean, Adam and Dylan Duke, Daria and Zoe Winsky, Alex Gargac, Katie Brandt, Taylor and Matthew Berens, Brian and Ellie St. Aubin and Blake Landa; fond brother of Nelson (Mary), Richard (Marie), Thomas (Helen) and Joan (James) Gates; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Paul and Florence Duke, and siblings, J. Paul Jr., Florence Conrad and Katherine Duke. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Highland Area Office, 777 Central Ave., Highland Park, IL 60035-3240 or to a Hospice of one's choice.
