Son of John N and Jane Quiggen Cannell. In 1860 Henry was an apprentice shoemaker with his brother Thomas E and wife Marietta in Maquoketa, Iowa. After the war broke out he enlisted on 20 September 1862 as a Corporal 5th Class with Company F, 31st Infantry at the age of 21. Promoted to Full Sergeant 2nd class on 23 June 1863. Died of disease on 25 June 1864 in Nashville TN. Was orginially buried the National Cemetery at Nashville Section J site 13776. Was removed to Harvard Grove in re-interred in the family plot.
