a takeoff accident at the Laurinburg-Maxton
Army Airfield, North Carolina.

Pilot Lt. John Reynolds attempted to avoid a
collision with a towed glider, but his evasive
actions caused the transport to stall and crash
into the woods.

All 25 Army personnel aboard perished.

Son of Ivan and Anna (Odley) Bacon, immigrants
from Yugoslavia.
