Lillian Etta McFayden Sherrill, 90, of Ellerbe, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 at her daughter's home.
Miss Lillian, as she was affectionately known, was born November 19, 1922 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Colon Alexander and Etta Melinda Freeman McFayden. She was a graduate of Ellerbe High School, Class of 1939. She was an active member of Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church, where she had taught Sunday School and served as an Elder and a Deacon and was a life member of the Presbyterian Women. She had worked at A & P Grocery in Charlotte and Rockingham and retired after 25 years as a teacher's assistant at Ellerbe Primary and Mineral Springs Schools. Following her retirement, she loved working at David's Produce in Ellerbe, which was a part of her family farm.

Miss Lillian loved local history and from 1992 – 1998 she and her husband Woodford were instrumental in the restoration of Bostick School in Ellerbe. She was also the family historian, a member of the Richmond County Historical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodford Sherrill, grandson, Alex Sherrill, brothers Colon and Ralph McFayden, sister, Mary Jean McFayden, son in law, Ray Robbins and sister in law, Gladys McFayden.

Surviving are her children, David Sherrill (Jackie) of Ellerbe, Brenda Baucom (Thomas) of Rockingham and Nancy Robbins of Rockingham; brother, Harold McFayden (Peggy), Robert McFayden (Marie) and Willard McFayden (Enid), all of Ellerbe and sister in law, Dot McFayden of Ellerbe.

A service to celebrate Miss Lillian's life will be held at 11 am Monday at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wyatt Coley and Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery.
