James Clyde Brent was born near Bogue Chitto, Mississippi, to James Michael Brent and Susan Amanda Price.
He was married twice; first to Gladys Mae Wheelock. Gladys bore two sets of twins. The first pair were girls born in 1919; sadly, only one of the girls survived. In 1924, boy twins were born to the couple. This time not only did just one child survive, but the mother, Gladys, was taken as well. The infant son was buried in the casket with his mother.
Mr. Brent second married Lessye O Smith. An infant daughter born to them in 1927 did not live; she was born and died on the same day. After that, the couple had at least three more children, a girl and two boys.
The Brent family purchased Biloxi Marble & Granite Works (Biloxi, MS) in 1915. James Clyde Brent remained the owner/operator until 1955 when he was succeeded by his son, Robert Lewis Brent. The company continues to this day providing custom marble, bronze, and granite monuments, mausoleums, plaques, urn, and other memorial.
