US Congressman. His sister Hannah and he were raised by relatives following the deaths of their parents, and Ransom Halloway established himself as a hat maker and farmer in Beekman. He became active in the New York Militia, and in 1818 was appointed Paymaster of the 30th Brigade. In 1848 he was the successful Whig nominee for a seat in the US House of Representatives, taking advantage of a split in the Democratic party. He served one term, 1849 to 1851, and did not run for reelection in 1850. He died at an estate called "Mount Pleasant", the home of his second wife Eliza Waring, just a month after the expiration of his term. His name is sometimes spelled "Holloway."
