Mary E. Gatewood, 92, longtime Carthage resident, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.. She was born May 16,1919 in Sullivan County to Floyd Thomas Bledsoe and Edith Blanch (Carr) Bledsoe. She married William O. Gatewood Aug. 16, 1964; he survives.. Mary was a member of East Street Christian Church in Carthage, the Carthage Garden Club, the Eastern Star, the Rush County Republican Central Committee, and was precinct committeeman in Ripley Township for many years.. Survivors include her husband, William Gatewood of Carthage; one son, Michael H. Joseph and wife Barbara of Houston, Texas; one sister, Martha Marlow of Dugger; one grandson, Scott W. Joseph of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Revs. David Bonne and Jim Lawer. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
