NELS JOHNSON, JR. DIED SATURDAY EVE.

Was a Respected Citizen of Sebeka For 28 Years

Nels Johnson, Jr., well known and respected citizen and retired pioneer hardware merchant of Sebeka, passed away at his home in this village about 9:00 o’clock Saturday evening of heart trouble. Mr. Johnson had been up and about town as usual that day, but he had been feeling poorly for some time previous to the day of his death. Mr. Johnson was sitting in a chair visiting with his wife when the end came without warning.
Deceased was born in Fillmore county, Minnesota, on February 29, 1865, and was therefore 72 years, 2 months and 29 days old at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Minnie Hage at Detroit Lakes, Minn. In 1904. Deceased had a wide and successful business career and taught school in Fillmore and Norman counties; later working in retail stores and conducting a general merchandise store in Ada for thirteen years. He was also engaged in the banking business at Gary, Minn. And resided in Detroit Lakes for a short time, coming to Sebeka in January, 1909. At that time he bought the Lindell Hardware Store in Sebeka and continued in the retail hardware business here until fire destroyed his building and stock with other business buildings some years ago, when he retired from active business and continued to make his home here. For twenty-eight years Mr. Johnson was one of this village’s most successful business men and respected and leading citizens. He was a man of the highest integrity and his word was as good as his bond.
Deceased is survived by his widow and one brother, John Johnson, of Mabel, Minn. And also several nephews and nieces. The body was taken to Mabel, Minn. Tuesday evening where funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon.
The Review joins with Mrs. Johnson’s many friends in extending sympathy in her time of sorrow.
