He was the son of Ephraim and Jane (Fairbanks) Jewett, and was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., April 9, 1842. Was educated at St. Johnsbury Academy, graduating in 1859; Amherst College, class of 1863 (non-graduate); Andover Theological Seminary, graduating in 1869. Ordained by council at Redwood, Cal., July 12, 1870. Was non-commissioned officer, Thirty-Ninth Wisconsin Volunteers, 1864. Pastorates: Pastor, Redwood, Cal., 1869-79. Was superintendent of schools, San Mateo, Cal., 1873-75; principal. Golden Gate (later Hopkins) Academy, Oakland, Cal., 1879-88. Resided in Vacaville, Cal., 1889-97. Pastor, Vacaville, Cal., 1890-96. Without charge, Berkeley, Cal., from 1897. Was trustee. Pacific Theological Seminary, 1877-1903. Registrar and state secretary of California General Association from 1877. Director, Home Missionary Society. Degree conferred: Honorary m.a., Amherst College, 1883. Publications: Memoir of Rev. Israel Edson Dwinell, 320 pp., Oakland, Cal., 1902; pamphlets; various memorials. Married, May 31, 1876, at Sacramento, Cal., Alice H. Dwinell, daughter of Rev. Israel Edson and Rebecca E. (Maxwell) Dwinell. Four children, living. Died May 16, 1910, at Berkeley, of heart failure, aged 68 years, 1 month, and 7 days.

Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services tomorrow (Thursday), May 19, 1910, at 10 o'clock a.m., at the First Congregational Church, corner of Durant and Dana streets, Berkeley. Internment Mountain View Cemetery.
