Dorothy L. Rinto, 79, of Columbus died March 27, 2003 in Columbus, Ohio from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Dorothy was born March 24, 1924 in Sharon, Pennsylvania. She was the 8th of nine children of English-born parents, Arthur and Letitia McLinden Bishop. She graduated from St. Peter's High School in Mansfield then received her RN degree in 1945 from St. Thomas School of Nursing in Akron. After graduation, Dorothy moved to San Francisco to work as a nurse. During a visit home, she met her husband-to-be, Carl. They were married June 2, 1949 in Mansfield and eventually settled in the Crestline area. Dorothy was a devoted nurse, wife, and mother of five. She will be remembered as an extraordinarily unselfish person who drew on her nursing background to care for her own parents and mother-in-law during their final illnesses. She was also the neighborhood nurse-giving advice and TLC to anyone who needed it. A lifelong Catholic, Dorothy's faith sustained her during her own serious illnesses and during her husband's final illness.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Russell Rinto of Mansfield, Martin and Jane Rinto of Medina, and John and Deborah Rinto of Columbus; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Rinto and Jerry Lawson of Cincinnati and Karla Rinto and John Vlasko of Columbus; three grandsons, James, Peter and Tom; and a brother, Colonel John Bishop of Honolulu. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Carl R. Rinto and by eight of her nine siblings.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Sunday, March 30 from 4-7 p.m. A mass of Christian burial, conducted by Father Michael Schelling and Deacon Bill Horning will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Crestline. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
