Mr. Mason was born in Saxton, Mo., and lived in Tacoma for the past 55 years. He was a retired carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Maude; two sons, Howard E. Jr. of Edmonds, and George A. of Fircrest; a daughter, Donna Williamson of Gig Harbor; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
