INMAN, NANCY BROWN ----
Nancy Brown Inman died on March 17, 2011 at the Casa Dorinda Medical Center in Santa Barbara, California after a long illness. She will be buried in Decatur, Illinois at Graceland/Fairlawn Cemetery on April 6, 2011. A celebration of her life in Santa Barbara is pending and will be announced at a future date.
Nancy was born on October 30, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the third child of Earl and Ethel Brown. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Starr Brown (age 5) and her elder sister, Elizabeth Starr Lund. Nancy attended local schools and graduated from Mary Institute in 1941. She attended Scripps College in Claremont, Ca. and transferred to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. She graduated from Northwestern with a degree in Psychology in 1945 and received honors (Magna Cum Laude) as well. She was a member of the Pi Beta Sorority while attending the university.
Nancy married James J. Izard of Roanoke, Virginia on September 7, 1946. They had one daughter, Alice DeLancey Izard. Nancy had several jobs during her early years, but considered her work as a travel agent to be her true career. During her lifetime she was a member of the Junior League of Washington D.C., Tulsa, Oklahoma and Santa Barbara, California. She also volunteered for Planned Parenthood of Santa Barbara. Her true passion was travel and when she married Edward Hamilton Inman of Atlanta, Georgia she was able to fulfill her lifetime dream of travel throughout the world.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Alice Izard Jones (Robert "Grigger"), three grandchildren, Andrew (Ali), Carolyn and Nancy (Chris) as well as two great grandchildren, Kristen Jane Sylvester and Leoni Camille Jones. Additional family members include her step children Laural Inman and April Warren as well as two step grandchildren, Robin Warren and Edward Warren.
Nancy will be remembered by all who loved her as a woman who "got a kick out of life". Her eyes had a special twinkle which earned her the college nickname of "Twink". She spread joy and true warmth toward all whom she touched and she will be missed by a wide circle of family and friends.
