Killed at Nijmegen, The Netherlands on the Waal River. He will be forever honored in Nijmegen on the new bridge called "The Crossing". A light will be lit each evening for each of the 48 men who died crossing the Waal River September 20, 1944.

He was repatriated in 1949.
