Allen J Willis is the oldest child of Andrew Jackson Willis and Artamissa Sparks Willis. He married in Franklin Co AL about 1855/56 Sarah Hovater. There were, according to the 1900 census, 7 births during the marriage. Known names were Enoch Preston (1857-), Allen Wesley (1861-), William Rufus (1862-1947), Mary Louann (1866-1928), Josephine (1868-), Shanois or Shaunes. Four children were still alive on the 1900 census.

Allen and Sarah resided in Franklin Co AL for the 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses. They moved to Lauderdale Co AL and appear there 1880 and 1900 censuses. His occupation was farmer.

According to a letter from a granddaughter, after Sarah's death, he resided with his daughter Mary and her husband Thomas Sherman Wesson until his death several months later.
Thomas and Mary appear on the 1900 census in Lauderdale Co AL and the 1910 census in Lawrence Co TN. Therefore, Allen could have died in either county. The granddaughter wrote that both Allen and Sarah were buried in Mt Tabor.
