FUNERAL MASS FOR SR. M. ANNUCIATA
SPRINGFIELD - Mass of the Resurrection and the Rite of Christian Burial was offered a the Dominican Motherhouse here on Oct. 4 for Sister M. Annuciata Begnel, O.P., who died Oct. 2 in the Motherhouse infirmary following an extended illness. Celebrant of the Mass was Msgr. William Haug, Chaplain.

Sister M. Annuciata was born on a farm near Murrayville, a member of the St. Bartholomew Paris, and was the daughter of the late James H. Begnel and Sarah Connolly. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and Brown's Business College in Jacksonville and spent 10 years in the business world before entering the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters in 1934. She made profession of vows in 1936 and later received her A.B. degree from St. Francis College in Joilet. She taught upper grades, business education in high school, and at times was administrator of a number of schools staffed by the Dominican Sisters in Illinois and elsewhere prior to her retirement in 1979.

Sister M. Annuciata was preceded in death by four brothers; two sisters, including Sister Mary Joan Begnel, and five cousins, who were all Springfield Dominicans.

Surviving are one brother, Leonard J. Begnel of Alton; one sister, Mrs. William (Ida) McGrath of Jacksonville; 14 nieces; seven nephews; a grandniece, Sister Mary Joan Sorge, formerly of Jacksonville, and one cousin, Sister Mary Louis Casey, both of whom are also members of the Community.
