(1860 - 1941)

John Scherer, 80, Newton route 1, died at 1 o’clock this morning at Holy Family hospital after being ill three weeks with a heart ailment.

The body will lie in state at the Pfeffer Funeral Home from 7 o’clock tonight until Friday morning when it will be removed to the home. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o’clock at the residence and at 9:30 o’clock at St. Isidor’s church at Osman. The Rev. Edward Wagner will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Manitowoc. Father Wagner will recite the rosary at the Scherer home Friday evening at 7:45 o’clock.

Mr. Scherer was a lifelong resident of Newton and for the last 50 years had resided on the same farm, retiring five years ago. He was born Sept. 21, 1860, and on Feb. 7, 1889 he married Miss Mary Koelzer.

The widow survives with four daughters, Mrs. Andrew Bogenschuetz of Cleveland, Sister M. Alexine of Bapchule, Ariz., Mrs. Michael Trainor of this city and Miss Mary Scherer at home; three sons, Joseph and Eugene of this city, and Francis at home; one brother, Nick; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Zych and Mrs. Ernst Duebner all of this city; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Scherer was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Isador’s church.
