DEACON DONALD E. SCHNEIDER
(1922 - 2000)

Deacon Donald E. Schneider, age 78, a resident of 13416 Reif Mills Road, Whitelaw, died Monday, October 9, 2000, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Tom Long at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Reedsville, Friday, October 13, 2000, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Deacon Don was born July 22, 1922, in Manitowoc, son of the late Earl P. and Violette Schwartz Schneider. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. He served with the United States Air Force from October 12, 1942, to February 2, 1946, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Rosemary M. Koch on August 7, 1948, at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Don worked at Rahr Malting Company (Lakeside Machine Shop) for 39 years retiring in 1986. September 13, 1986, Bishop Adam J. Maida ordained Don as a deacon in the Green Bay Diocese. He was appointed to serve St. Mary's Parish in Reedsville and St. Patrick's Parish in Maple Grove. In December of 1999, his ministry was extended to include St. Mary's Parish in Brillion. Don was a member of the Secular Order of St. Francis, Manitowoc, and the Knights of Columbus, Elizabeth Seton Council 5798, Reedsville, where he served as their assistant Chaplin.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; five children, Donald E. Jr. (Karen), Whitelaw, Gregory P. (Robin), West Bend, Patrick G. (Lea), Oconto, Sandra J. (Harold) Schnell, St. Nazianz, Ann (Thomas) Weger, Francis Creek; a sister, Dorothy Ann (Bob) Meisner, Reedsville; also seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, Thursday 4-8 p.m. and Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Reedsville, 9 a.m. until the time of mass at 11 a.m. A prayer service will be held Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. led by Deacon Paul Kieffer.

The Schneider family would like to extend a very special thank you to Holy Family Hospice Program for the kind and compassionate care they gave to us. Don will be missed by his wife, family and many friends. He touched the lives of so many people.
