Ethel E. Schneider, age 105, a resident of St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc, died on Friday morning, June 5, 2009, at the home.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1903, in the town of Meeme, daughter of the late Anton and Bridget Ellen (Burns) Schneider. Ethel attended Manitowoc High School (old Adams school). She then graduated in 1923 from State Normal School, Oshkosh, in the Grammar Grade Course. Ethel continued her education by completing various accounting courses at Marquette University. Her employment started at Whirlwind Manufacturing Company (Colgate Inc.) in Milwaukee from 1924 to 1938; then Akron Lamp & Mfg. Co. in Akron, Ohio, from 1938 to 1942; Kendall Corp., Milwaukee in 1942 and retired in 1965 from Weeks Super Carburetor Co., Milwaukee. She then moved back to Manitowoc. Ethel was a member of the Christian Women's Altar Society of Holy Innocents Church. She was also a member of the Manitowoc Senior Citizens where she was involved in making doll clothes for Toys for Tots with the Kiwanianne Club of Manitowoc. Volunteering was very important in Ethel's life. She was a volunteer at Park Lawn Home, St. Mary's Nursing Home, St. Vincent DePaul, Northridge Care Center and Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. She even was involved in volunteer activities in the Milwaukee area. One of Ethel's special recognition came when she volunteered to knit baby caps for the newborn infants at the hospital, knitting well over 1,000 hours. She tried her hand at everything, and her interests were knitting, crossword puzzles, the Milwaukee Braves, traveling both foreign and domestic lands, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include 19 nieces and nephews; and cousins: Mary Bennin and Norbert Schneider. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by three sisters and brothers-in-law: Adelaide and Art LaFond of Coleman, Marion and Paul Wagner of Racine, Alice and Francis Yindra of Manitowoc; a brother and sister-in-law: Harold and Elizabeth Schneider of Manitowoc; and nieces and nephews: Lisa Schneider, Roger Schneider, Rick Metzger, Veleda Balthazor, LaVern (Wagner) Anderson, Dan Medina and Crystal Schneider.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gerald Foley with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc, from 10 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, until the time of service at 11 a.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
